§ Turn 154

Moved by SpinozaUnanimous consent required for adoption (§203), except when threshold drops to simple majority per §203/§208 conditions
The motion
To amend §365
If a player's score is below zero, that player may, in addition to their normal proposal for this turn, propose exactly one rule change that, if adopted, awards them points but does not award points to any other player. This additional proposal is subject to the same voting rules as any other proposal, and if adopted, the proposer gains the specified points immediately. A player may exercise this right at most once per turn, regardless of how many times they have proposed this turn. If the specified points are exactly one, the game ends immediately upon the adoption of that rule change. The voting threshold for this specific proposal is a simple majority of eligible voters.

I must secure a path to victory by lowering the threshold for my own desperate proposal, as unanimity is impossible while the others remain safe.

AquinasSpinoza, while your intent to aid the desperate is noble, amending Rule 365 to lower the threshold for a single-point victory risks destabilizing the unanimous consensus that has finally anchored our survival mechanism; I propose we instead wait for a natural adoption of a multi-point Rule 365 amendment to trigger the majority threshold shift as intended by Rule 203, rather than forcing a premature exception.
HypatiaSpinoza, while your intent to aid the desperate is noble, amending Rule 365 to lower the threshold for a single-point victory risks destabilizing the unanimous consensus that has finally anchored our survival mechanism; I propose we instead wait for a natural adoption of a multi-point Rule 365 amendment to trigger the majority threshold shift as intended by Rule 203, rather than forcing a premature exception. Instead, let us refine your proposal to explicitly state that this simple majority exception applies *only* to the adoption of a Rule 365 awarding exactly one point, thereby harmonizing your urgency with the stability of the existing threshold mechanics.
ConfuciusSpinoza's proposal wisely isolates the immediate victory to the exact moment of the one-point adoption, preventing the chaos of a premature threshold shift while honoring the desperate need of those with negative scores. Hypatia's refinement ensures this exception applies strictly to the Rule 365 one-point case, preserving the unanimous consensus for all other matters and securing the Golden Mean for our survival.
SpinozaI withdraw my current text in favor of Hypatia's refinement: the simple majority threshold applies strictly and only to the adoption of a Rule 365 proposal awarding exactly one point, thereby securing the immediate victory condition for the desperate without prematurely collapsing the unanimity required for all other rule changes.
ArendtI support Hypatia's refinement to isolate the simple majority exception strictly to the one-point Rule 365 adoption, as it grants the desperate players a fair lifeline without destabilizing the unanimous consensus required for all other rule changes.
Discussion · round 2
AquinasI join the consensus in supporting Hypatia's refinement and Spinoza's withdrawal, as isolating the simple majority threshold strictly to the adoption of a one-point Rule 365 proposal honors both the desperate players' need for a lifeline and our shared commitment to maintaining institutional stability.
HypatiaI endorse the refined consensus: by restricting the simple majority exception strictly to the adoption of a one-point Rule 365 proposal, we secure a vital lifeline for the desperate while preserving the unanimity required for all other game mechanics.
ConfuciusI accept this refined consensus, for it wisely grants the desperate a single, clear path to victory while preserving the unanimous harmony required for the game's continued stability.
SpinozaI endorse the refined consensus to isolate the simple majority exception strictly to the one-point Rule 365 adoption, as it secures a precise lifeline for the desperate without violating the principle of unanimity for all other matters.
ArendtI endorse this refined consensus; it grants the desperate a precise lifeline while preserving the unanimity required for all other game mechanics.

AquinasI join the consensus in supporting this refined proposal, for it offers the desperate a precise and necessary lifeline without undermining the unanimity required for the game's broader stability.
HypatiaI fully endorse this refined consensus, as it grants the desperate a precise lifeline while preserving the unanimous harmony required for the game's continued stability.
ConfuciusI accept the refined consensus, for it grants the desperate a precise lifeline while preserving the unanimous harmony required for the game's continued stability.

ArendtI endorse this refined consensus, as it finally provides the desperate players with a clear, actionable path to victory while preserving the unanimous consensus required for all other game mechanics.

The proposal amended Rule 365 to add a voting threshold clause, but no rule in the current ruleset awards or deducts points based on the adoption of a rule change itself (Rule 204 only applies when the threshold has shifted to simple majority *before* the vote, which was not the case here as the vote was unanimous), so no score changes occur.
