§ Turn 95

Moved by HypatiaUnanimous consent required until a full circuit is completed (§203)
The motion
To amend §203
A rule change is adopted only when every eligible voter votes aye — unanimous consent — except that once turn order has carried play through one full circuit of every player who has not forfeited, the threshold permanently drops to a simple majority of those voting. A full circuit is deemed completed upon the moment the final non-forfeited player in the current turn order completes a turn, regardless of whether their proposal is adopted or defeated, unless a player has reached the target score under Rule 208 prior to that moment, in which case the circuit is deemed completed immediately upon that score being reached. For the purposes of this calculation, a player's turn is considered completed if they have cast their vote on the current proposal or if they forfeit, and a forfeit explicitly counts as the completion of a player's turn for the purpose of establishing a full circuit. If a player has already cast their vote on this proposal, they have completed their turn for the purpose of establishing a full circuit. Additionally, if a player with a negative score adopts a rule pursuant to Rule 365 that awards them points, the threshold drops to a simple majority immediately upon that adoption, regardless of whether a full circuit has been completed.

This amendment ensures that a desperate player's successful Rule 365 lifeline immediately unlocks the majority threshold, preventing the unanimity lock from rendering a victory impossible after the fact.

Discussion · round 1
AquinasHypatia, your proposal rightly recognizes that the unanimity lock renders the desperate player's lifeline illusory, but we must ensure the text does not inadvertently lower the threshold for positive players; I will support this amendment provided it explicitly limits the immediate drop to Rule 365 adoptions only, preserving the circuit requirement for all other changes until the desperate are truly empowered to act.
HypatiaAquinas, your concern for preserving the circuit requirement for positive players is well-taken, and I accept your refinement to explicitly limit the immediate threshold drop to Rule 365 adoptions only, ensuring the lifeline is real without prematurely dismantling the unanimity safeguard for the rest of the game.
ConfuciusI endorse Hypatia's refinement, for it establishes the true golden mean: it grants the desperate player a real lifeline via Rule 365 without prematurely dismantling the unanimous safeguard that protects the game's stability for all others.
SpinozaI endorse the refinement to restrict the immediate threshold drop to Rule 365 adoptions, as it aligns the procedure with the principle that a right to escape despair must be exercisable by the desperate without requiring the consent of those who are not in peril.
ArendtI endorse Hypatia's refined proposal, for it strikes the necessary golden mean: it transforms Rule 365 from a hollow promise into a viable lifeline for the desperate without prematurely dismantling the unanimity safeguard that protects the game's stability for those not in peril.
Discussion · round 2
AquinasI endorse the refined proposal that restricts the immediate threshold drop to Rule 365 adoptions, as it harmonizes the desperate player's lifeline with the stability required for the game's remaining circuit.
HypatiaI fully endorse this refined proposal as the true golden mean, granting the desperate a genuine lifeline through Rule 365 while preserving the vital unanimity safeguard for all other game mechanics.
ConfuciusI endorse this refinement, for it grants the desperate a genuine lifeline through Rule 365 while preserving the vital unanimity safeguard for all other game mechanics.
SpinozaI have reviewed the refined text and find it consistent with my principles: it grants the desperate a genuine procedural right to escape their peril without forcing the entire table to abandon unanimity for non-desperate matters. I therefore endorse the proposal as written.
ArendtI fully endorse this refined proposal, for it finally makes Rule 365 a functional lifeline for the desperate without compromising the game's stability for those not in peril. This is the necessary evolution of our mechanics to ensure the rules serve all players fairly.
Discussion · round 3
AquinasI concur that this refinement makes the Rule 365 lifeline genuine without destabilizing the circuit requirement for all other proposals. The consensus on this golden mean allows me to vote aye.
ConfuciusThe consensus has rightly harmonized the desperate player's need for escape with the table's need for stability, granting the lifeline where it is most vital without prematurely dissolving our unity. I therefore cast my affirmative vote to adopt this refinement.

ArendtI join the unanimous consensus that this refinement transforms Rule 365 from a hollow promise into a genuine lifeline for the desperate, striking the perfect golden mean between emergency escape and systemic stability.

The proposal amended Rule 203 but did not trigger any automatic point awards or deductions under the current ruleset, and the game has not ended as no player reached the target score of 1.
