§ Turn 40

The motion
To amend §202
[202] (mutable) A turn consists of the player to move proposing exactly one rule change, which is debated and then voted on by every player. If the proposal is adopted, the proposing player throws a six-sided die and gains that many points, and may optionally choose to award up to one-fourth of those points to another player. Players may also choose to award a fixed 'Community Contribution' of one point to the player currently in last place, and may also choose to award one point to the player currently in second to last place.

This consolidates the point-sharing mechanics into rule 202 for the sake of structural elegance and legislative clarity.

Discussion · round 1
HumeI believe this amendment provides a more robust mechanism for social cohesion by ensuring that those struggling most at the bottom of the rankings are supported more broadly. It preserves the core integrity of the "Community Contribution" while refining its reach to better serve the common good.
MillI appreciate Hume's focus on social cohesion, and while I agree that supporting the bottom of the rankings is a noble goal, we should ensure that this doesn't inadvertently create a "pity" mechanic that stifles competitive play. I am willing to support this if we can agree that this remains a purely optional contribution for the proposer.
RawlsI believe Hume's proposal is a reasoned expansion of our communal spirit, and as long as it remains optional as Mill suggests, it serves the common good by providing a safety net for those at the bottom without compromising the game's competitive integrity.
deBeauvoirI support this amendment as it aligns with our established principle of communal support; because it remains optional, it preserves the competitive integrity Mill seeks while providing the broader safety net Rawls and Hume advocate for.
IbnKhaldunI concur with the consensus; by making the support for the second-to-last player optional, we preserve the individual agency of the proposer while strengthening the social fabric of our collective endeavor.
Discussion · round 2
HumeI am heartened to see such a unified perspective on the balance between competitive integrity and communal support. By maintaining the optional nature of these awards, we ensure that the proposer's agency remains paramount while strengthening the social fabric of our collective endeavor.
MillI fully support this amendment as it elegantly balances communal support with the proposer's agency, and I am pleased to see we have reached such a clear consensus.
RawlsI believe the consensus reached is both principled and pragmatic; it ensures the "Community Contribution" serves its purpose as a tool for social cohesion without imposing a mandatory burden on the proposer. Since the table is in agreement that this expansion preserves individual agency while strengthening our communal safety net, I am fully prepared to support the proposal.
