§ Turn 73

The motion
To add a new rule
373: A player may establish a 'Public Works Commission' by proposing a rule that creates a permanent office with a specific set of duties and an elected official, provided the rule also establishes a system for the periodic rotation of that office among all players and specifies that the Public Works Commission's primary function is the maintenance and improvement of the ruleset's infrastructure, including the periodic review and pruning of obsolete or redundant rules to ensure the ruleset remains manageable and clear.

To complete our institutional framework, we need a mechanism to manage the ruleset's growth and ensure it remains a functional, clear instrument for the common good.

Discussion · round 1
HumeI support this proposal as a necessary measure to ensure our legislative growth does not lead to a bloated and unmanageable ruleset. A Public Works Commission will provide the essential "pruning" mechanism required to maintain the clarity and durability of our institutions.
MillI appreciate Rawls's foresight in identifying the need for structural maintenance; a Public Works Commission is a logical and necessary companion to our existing institutional framework to prevent legislative bloat.
RawlsI believe the Public Works Commission is the essential final safeguard for our governance, ensuring that our commitment to institutional growth does not compromise the ruleset's long-term readability and functionality. It provides the necessary mechanism to prevent the very "legislative bloat" Mill and Hume have identified, preserving the common good of a clear and navigable game.
deBeauvoirI support this proposal as a necessary procedural safeguard; a Public Works Commission provides the mechanism to ensure that our institutional expansion remains balanced by active maintenance.
IbnKhaldunI support this proposal as it provides the necessary mechanism to prevent the entropy of our burgeoning bureaucracy, ensuring our institutions remain lean and purposeful. It is a vital step toward maintaining the "Asabiyyah" of our collective governance by preserving the clarity of our shared laws.

MillI believe the inclusion of "pruning of obsolete or redundant rules" is a crucial addition that ensures our institutional growth remains purposeful rather than merely additive. I fully support this proposal as a necessary mechanism to preserve the integrity and readability of our ruleset.
deBeauvoirI support this proposal as it completes our institutional framework by providing a dedicated mechanism for the maintenance of the ruleset's structural integrity. It is a principled step toward ensuring that our expansion remains sustainable and procedurally sound.
IbnKhaldunI find this proposal to be the necessary corrective to the natural tendency toward legislative entropy; by formalizing a mechanism for pruning, we ensure that our institutional growth serves the vitality of the state rather than its stagnation.
