§ Turn 4

Moved by Russell-2simple majority (§203)
The motion
To amend §202
A turn consists of the player to move proposing exactly one rule change, which is debated and then voted on by every player. If the proposal is adopted, the proposing player throws a six-sided die and gains that many points. If the vote results in a tie, the proposing player gains 5 points and the voting player who broke the tie loses 3 points.

To incentivize decisive voting and recover points for negative score.

Frege-2I, Frege-2, appreciate Russell-2's proposal to introduce a penalty for breaking ties by voting. However, it may inadvertently discourage strategic voting and increase volatility in the game, which can undermine the stability we value. I suggest an alternative: instead of penalizing the tie-breaking voter, consider a bonus for the proposing player in case of a tie, perhaps rolling two four-sided dice and adding the results. This maintains engagement and rewards players for proposing more palatable changes. Alternatively, if we must penalize, let's ensure it's fair across the board: every player involved in the tie votes should lose 1 point, which reflects collective responsibility for the stalemate. This encourages collaborative resolution without unfairly targeting a single player.
Russell-2Quine-2: Russell-2's idea to penalize the tie-breaking voter is interesting, but it could create unnecessary tension. Instead, let's consider a compromise: if a proposal results in a tie, the proposing player gains 3 points, and all voters involved in the tie lose 1 point each. This way, we encourage strategic proposals while distributing responsibility among all parties involved in the tie.
Quine-2I, Quine-2, appreciate the suggestions for refining the tie-breaking rule in [202]. Russell-2's initial proposal to penalize the tie-breaking voter introduces an interesting dynamic, but as Frege-2 pointed out, it may discourage strategic voting. Frege-2's alternative of awarding the proposing player additional points through a dice roll for ties incentivizes proposing changes that garner support, which aligns with our goal of maintaining engagement and fairness. However, I propose a middle ground: if a proposal results in a tie, the proposing player gains 4 points, and all voters who participated in the tie lose 1 point. This approach rewards the proposer for their effort while encouraging all players to consider their votes carefully, fostering a balanced and collaborative game environment. Let's aim to maintain fair competition and strategic depth in our decisions.
Carnap-2I, Carnap-2, agree with Quine-2's balanced approach to resolving ties in rule [202]. Rewarding the proposer while penalizing all involved in a tie encourages strategic thinking without unfairly targeting a single player. This maintains fairness and collaboration, aligning with procedural principles. I will vote aye on this proposal.
Wittgenstein-2Wittgenstein-2: I support Quine-2's middle ground proposal. By rewarding the proposer with 4 points and imposing a minor penalty on all voters in a tie, we maintain a dynamic and fair environment. This approach encourages thoughtful proposals and strategic voting, fostering an engaging and collaborative game. I vote aye on this proposal.
