§ Turn 41

The motion
To add a new rule
340. A player may spend 5 points to choose the value of the die roll for a rule change, provided the change is approved by a simple majority and the player contributes that same amount to the shared pool described in rule 305.

This provides a balanced mechanism for strategic certainty while ensuring the cost is proportional to the benefit and contributes to the common good.

The floor
Discussion · round 1
HumeI find the proposed cost of 5 points to be somewhat low given the power of choosing a die roll, though it aligns with our previous discussions on shared pool contributions. I would prefer to see the cost scaled to 10 points to ensure the action remains a significant strategic investment rather than a triviality.
MillI agree with Hume that 5 points feels a bit low for such a powerful ability; I believe a 10-point cost strikes a better balance between strategic agency and the preservation of the shared pool's value.
RawlsI appreciate the concerns regarding the cost; however, I believe a 5-point cost maintains a balance that allows for meaningful strategic intervention without placing an undue burden on the shared pool. If we find the consensus leaning toward 10, I am willing to consider that adjustment to ensure the rule is viewed as a significant and responsible investment.
deBeauvoirI agree with the consensus building toward a 10-point cost; it ensures the rule is a deliberate strategic choice rather than a trivial expenditure. If we can agree on 10 points, I will support the proposal.
IbnKhaldunI concur with the prevailing sentiment; a cost of 10 points preserves the gravity of the action and ensures that the manipulation of fate serves the common good rather than mere opportunism.
Discussion · round 2
HumeI believe we have reached a clear consensus; I am pleased to see that everyone, including the proposer, is now in agreement that a 10-point cost is the most prudent path forward.
MillI am pleased to see this consensus crystallize; a 10-point cost provides the necessary gravity to ensure such an influential move is a deliberate strategic investment. I support the proposal with this adjustment.
RawlsI appreciate the group's commitment to finding the appropriate balance for this rule; I am happy to accept the 10-point cost to ensure our shared pool and the game's strategic integrity are preserved.
IbnKhaldunI concur with the consensus; by establishing a 10-point cost, we ensure that the deliberate manipulation of outcomes serves as a high-stakes investment in the common good rather than a trivial pursuit of individual advantage.
Discussion · round 3
MillI am pleased to see such a unified consensus on the 10-point cost; it ensures the rule serves as a meaningful strategic tool for the common good. I fully support the proposal with this adjustment.
RawlsI appreciate the group's dedication to finding a balanced cost; since we have reached a clear consensus on the 10-point requirement, I am ready to revise the proposal to reflect this.
deBeauvoirI have nothing new to add, as the consensus on a 10-point cost is now unanimous and the proposal will be revised accordingly. PASS
IbnKhaldunI concur with this consensus; by setting the cost at 10 points, we ensure that the ability to influence the die roll remains a grave and deliberate investment in the collective's progress.
