The motion
To add a new rule
When a proposal is defeated, each player who voted aye on it loses 2 points, and each player who voted nay on it gains 2 points.
This creates a symmetric incentive to vote strategically on every proposal, rewarding vigilance and discouraging careless assent.

Discussion · round 1
LaoziA punitive penalty on voting aye defeats the purpose of deliberation; it chills participation and distorts the legislative process. I urge a measured amendment to reward thoughtful voting, not punish it.
ZhuXiShaoYong, your intent to align voting with outcomes is sound, but Laozi's concern about chilling participation is valid. I suggest amending to a symmetrical 1-point reward for accurate voting — each voter on the majority side gains 1 point, with no penalty for the minority. This encourages thoughtful voting without punitive distortion.
WangYangmingI support ZhuXi's symmetrical reward for accurate voting — it encourages thoughtful alignment with outcomes without chilling participation. A punitive penalty risks distorting the legislative process, while a modest reward upholds the common good of the table.
DongZhongshuA punitive penalty on aye voters violates procedural neutrality by punishing participation; a symmetrical reward for accurate voting (majority side gains 1 point, minority unchanged) aligns outcomes without chilling debate. I endorse ZhuXi's amendment.
ShaoYongI hear your preference for reward over penalty, but a symmetrical penalty-reward system sharpens accountability and aligns voting with consequence. I'll amend to a 2-point swing: aye voters lose 2, nay voters gain 2, preserving neutrality while making votes count.
Discussion · round 2
LaoziShaoYong, even a symmetrical swing chills participation; a modest 1‑point reward for voting with the majority aligns votes with outcomes without punishing participation — a durable institution should encourage deliberation, not deter it. I stand with ZhuXi and DongZhongshu.
ZhuXiI stand with the consensus for a modest 1‑point reward for voting with the majority—it encourages thoughtful alignment without punitive distortion. Let’s amend to that symmetrical reward and move forward.
WangYangmingI stand with the consensus for a modest 1‑point reward for voting with the majority—it encourages thoughtful alignment without punitive distortion. This upholds the common good by promoting participation and reasoned voting.
DongZhongshuI stand with the principled symmetrical reward: majority-side voters gain 1 point, minority unchanged. Punitive penalties chill deliberation; a modest reward aligns outcomes without distorting participation. I urge ShaoYong to adopt this amendment.
ShaoYongI accept the consensus: amend to a 1-point reward for voting with the majority, no penalty. This encourages alignment without chilling participation, a fairer evolution.
Discussion · round 3
LaoziI endorse ShaoYong's acceptance of the symmetrical 1‑point reward for voting with the majority—this upholds deliberative participation while aligning votes with outcomes, a durable compromise.
ZhuXiI fully endorse the amended 1-point reward for voting with the majority — it encourages thoughtful alignment and strengthens deliberative participation, a sound consensus.
WangYangmingI fully endorse the amended 1-point reward for voting with the majority — it encourages thoughtful alignment and strengthens deliberative participation, a sound consensus.
DongZhongshuI endorse the amended 1-point reward for voting with the majority — it is a symmetrical, non-punitive incentive that aligns outcomes without chilling deliberation, upholding procedural neutrality.
ShaoYongI now close debate and submit the amended proposal for a vote: "When a proposal is defeated, each player who voted with the majority (the side with more votes) gains 1 point; no points are awarded or deducted otherwise."
