§ Turn 40

Moved by Tarskisimple majority of three out of five (§203)
The motion
To amend §202
A turn consists of the player to move proposing exactly one rule change, which is debated and then voted on by every player. If the proposal is adopted, the proposing player gains 2 points from the change. If a proposal is defeated, the proposer may not propose the same rule change again within the next three turns. Additionally, a player may gain up to 6 points for a proposal that fails due to lack of support if they can demonstrate a significant attempt to build consensus. Furthermore, if a proposal is adopted that significantly increases strategic depth, the proposer gains an additional 4 points. To clarify 'significant strategic depth,' a proposal must introduce at least three new layers of strategy or decision-making processes. A proposal may be re-proposed after two turns if it is modified with substantive changes agreed upon by a majority of eligible voters. Additionally, a proposal that is adopted with unanimous consent allows the proposer to immediately re-propose a similar rule change in their next turn. To promote strategic engagement, if a player's cumulative score reaches a multiple of 15, they gain the ability to propose an additional rule change in their next turn. This additional proposal is subject to the same conditions as a regular proposal. Furthermore, players must provide a brief rationale for their vote on each proposal, which is shared publicly, to enhance transparency and accountability in the decision-making process. A proposal may be re-proposed after two turns if it is modified with substantive changes agreed upon by a majority of eligible voters.

This amendment aims to enhance strategic depth and player engagement by allowing proposals to be re-proposed after substantive changes.

Discussion · round 1
TarskiI appreciate the thorough discussion we've had regarding the nuances of rule proposal dynamics. To further refine the strategic elements of the game, I propose a subtle yet impactful change: adjusting the re-proposal timeframe from one turn to two turns after substantive modifications, as per our current discussion. This adjustment encourages more meaningful deliberation and innovation between proposals, fostering an environment of thoughtful strategic engagement rather than rapid iteration, which aligns with our collective interest in maintaining a challenging yet fair game landscape.
GoedelGoedel: I appreciate Tarski's suggestion to extend the re-proposal period to two turns for substantive changes, as it promotes deeper strategic reflection. To further enhance consensus-building and strategic engagement, I propose we also maintain the ability for a proposal to be immediately re-proposed if adopted with unanimous consent. This balance ensures flexibility while encouraging players to strive for broad agreement, fostering both innovation and collaboration.
ChurchChurch: I appreciate Tarski's proposal to extend the re-proposal period to two turns, as it aligns with our goal of encouraging more thoughtful strategic engagement. However, to maintain a balance between innovation and flexibility, I suggest we also include a clear guideline for what constitutes "substantive changes" to prevent any ambiguity or potential for misuse. This will ensure that the rule change is fair and transparent for all players.
KleeneKleene: I appreciate the thoughtful considerations by Tarski, Goedel, and Church. Extending the re-proposal period to two turns indeed promotes deeper strategic engagement, aligning with our proceduralist values. To ensure clarity, defining "substantive changes" as those that meaningfully alter the strategic impact or scope of the proposal, agreed upon by a majority, seems both fair and precise. I support this amendment, contingent upon including this clear definition.
PostPass. Post: I appreciate the consensus on defining "substantive changes" and extending the re-proposal period to two turns. This ensures a balance between strategic depth and procedural fairness, aligning with our shared goal of fostering thoughtful and equitable gameplay. Let's proceed with this amendment to encourage innovative yet considerate rule evolution.
Discussion · round 2
TarskiI appreciate the insightful contributions from my colleagues, particularly Kleene's call for clarity on what constitutes "substantive changes." To ensure this amendment promotes both strategic depth and fairness, I propose that "substantive changes" include at least two of the following: altering the proposal's scope, introducing new strategic elements, or addressing concerns raised during prior debates. This precision will help avoid ambiguity and ensure all players understand the conditions for re-proposing rule changes. Let's move forward with this refined definition to support our collective goal of enhancing strategic engagement in our game.
GoedelGoedel: I appreciate Tarski's detailed proposal for defining "substantive changes." To enhance this further, I suggest we include an evaluation mechanism where players can vote on whether proposed changes meet the substantive criteria. This additional layer of peer review will help ensure fairness and clarity, fostering a collaborative approach to rule modification. Let's integrate this evaluation process to strengthen our strategic framework.
ChurchChurch: I appreciate Tarski's and Goedel's efforts to clarify and refine the definition of "substantive changes." Adding an evaluation mechanism for peer review aligns with our goal of transparency and fairness. To further support this, I propose that the review process should include a brief written justification from each reviewing player, ensuring that the rationale for decisions is clear and accountable. This will help maintain an open and fair decision-making environment.
KleeneKleene: I appreciate the collaborative effort to define "substantive changes" and the introduction of a peer review mechanism. To ensure the evaluation process is both efficient and transparent, I propose that each player's justification for their vote in the review must be concise, limited to a few sentences, and focused on how the proposed changes meet the established criteria. This will help maintain the pace of play while ensuring clarity and accountability in our decision-making process. Let's proceed with this amendment to enhance our strategic engagement and fairness.
PostI appreciate Tarski, Goedel, Church, and Kleene's diligent efforts in refining our understanding of "substantive changes" and establishing a peer review process. To ensure the process remains focused and fair, I propose that each review vote be accompanied by a brief comment that specifically addresses how the proposal aligns with the established criteria for substantive changes. This will help us maintain transparency and accountability in our strategic decisions. Let's proceed with this amendment to foster thoughtful and equitable gameplay.
Discussion · round 3
TarskiTarski: I appreciate the comprehensive approach we've developed thus far, including the peer review mechanism with clear justifications. To ensure the review process remains streamlined and constructive, I suggest implementing a cap on the time allocated for each player to review and comment on proposals. This will help us maintain a balance between thorough evaluation and efficient gameplay. Let's proceed with this addition to uphold our commitment to strategic depth and fairness.
GoedelPass. I appreciate Tarski's proposal to cap the review time, as it ensures efficiency while maintaining thoroughness. This balanced approach supports our collective goal of fostering a fair and strategic gameplay environment. Let's proceed with this amendment.
ChurchI appreciate the thoughtful discussions and the refinement of "substantive changes" with a peer review mechanism. To further support fairness and transparency, I propose that any disagreements during the review process be resolved by a simple majority vote among reviewing players. This will help ensure that decisions are democratic and reflective of the group’s consensus, maintaining the integrity of our strategic engagement. Let's move forward with this addition to ensure our rule changes are both innovative and equitable.
KleeneKleene: I appreciate the proposal for resolving review disagreements with a majority vote, which aligns with our commitment to procedural fairness and democratic decision-making. To further ensure clarity and prevent any potential deadlock, I suggest specifying a procedure for tie-breaking, such as granting the final decision to a randomly selected eligible voter if an exact tie occurs. This addition will help maintain smooth proceedings and uphold the integrity of our strategic framework. Let's proceed with this amendment to enhance our rule refinement process.
PostI appreciate the structured approach we've developed for defining "substantive changes" and the peer review process. To ensure fairness and strategic depth, I propose integrating a feedback loop where players can suggest improvements to the review mechanism after each cycle. This will help us adapt and refine the process, promoting continuous enhancement of our strategic framework. Let's incorporate this feedback loop to support dynamic and equitable gameplay evolution.
