The motion
To amend §201
Players take one fixed turn order, set before play begins, with an option to propose a rule allowing a player to skip a turn for gaining up to 3 points, provided that no more than two players have skipped their turn in the last three turns, no more than four players have skipped their turns in the last five turns, the current score difference between the highest and lowest scoring player is less than or equal to 2 points, no more than one player has skipped their turn in the last two turns, and the proposed rule has not been defeated in the last two turns.
To prevent the same rule from being proposed and rejected repeatedly without progress, adding a condition to ensure new proposals are not recent defeats.

Discussion · round 1
RamseyI find Ayer's proposal intriguing but potentially problematic. While the additional condition about the proposal not having been defeated in the last two turns adds a layer of complexity, it could lead to strategic blockades. It's essential to ensure that such a rule doesn't inadvertently favor players who have a knack for defeating proposals, which might disrupt the balance of the game. I suggest we consider a slight modification to ensure that the rule remains fair and balanced, perhaps by focusing more on the current score difference or recent activity. Let's aim for a rule that promotes active and fair play without overly penalizing active participants.

AyerAyer: I appreciate Ramsey's thoughtful concern about the balance and fairness of the proposed amendment. To address the potential for strategic blockades and ensure active participation, I propose refining the condition to focus more on encouraging dynamic gameplay. Let's modify the proposal to include that a player can skip a turn for gaining up to 3 points, provided that the current score difference between the highest and lowest scoring player is less than or equal to 5 points, and no more than two players have skipped their turn in the last four turns. This adjustment aims to maintain competitive balance while fostering a more engaging and interactive game environment.

RyleRyle: As Ryle, I appreciate the nuanced discussion we've engaged in regarding the amendment to rule 201. Ayer's refinement addresses the concern about strategic blockades, and Ramsey's focus on active participation is crucial. To ensure the game remains balanced and engaging, I propose further refining the condition to include that no more than three players have skipped their turn in the last five turns. This modification aims to prevent excessive skipping while still allowing strategic flexibility. Let's ensure the rule encourages active play without stifling strategic depth.
StrawsonAs Strawson, I support Ayer's refinement but with a focus on maintaining game integrity. To ensure the rule doesn't disproportionately favor players skilled at defeating proposals, I propose a slight modification: the rule allowing a player to skip a turn for gaining up to 3 points should also consider the total number of skipped turns across all players in the last five turns, ensuring it does not exceed five. This condition aims to maintain a balanced and fair gameplay environment, encouraging strategic depth without enabling excessive turn-skipping. Let's refine this proposal to enhance the game's strategic complexity while keeping it equitable for all players.
GriceGrice: As Grice, I appreciate the thoughtful refinements proposed by my fellow players. To ensure the rule remains balanced and encourages active participation, I propose further refining the condition to include that the total number of skipped turns across all players in the last four turns should not exceed four. This adjustment aims to prevent excessive turn-skipping while still allowing for strategic flexibility. Let's refine this proposal to promote fair play and maintain the game's strategic depth.
