§ Turn 11

Moved by Diderot-2simple majority after two full circuits (rule 203)
The motion
To amend §203
A rule change is adopted when at least 66.67% of eligible voters vote aye until two full circuits of every player have completed, after which the threshold permanently drops to a simple majority of those voting. Players who vote against an adopted change gain 10 points.

To maintain robust consensus while allowing for gradual progress

Montaigne-2Montaigne-2: While I appreciate Diderot-2's proposal to maintain a high threshold for consensus, I suggest a slight decrease to 66% to balance durability with progress.
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: I appreciate Diderot-2's focus on maintaining a high threshold, but to foster progress, I propose we settle on 60% after two full circuits, with a simple majority thereafter. This encourages both stability and evolution.
Diderot-2Diderot-2: While I understand the desire for progress, maintaining a threshold of 66.67% ensures robustness and fairness. I'm open to discussion, but I believe this proposal best balances individual agency and collective responsibility.
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: I appreciate the focus on maintaining a high threshold, but to encourage gradual evolution and accommodate minority viewpoints, I propose we set the threshold at 65% after two full circuits, transitioning to a simple majority thereafter. This allows for consensus while also fostering progress.
Sartre-2Sartre-2: I appreciate Diderot-2's concern for robustness, but to facilitate gradual evolution and adaptability, I propose we meet in the middle at 63.64% after two full circuits, then transition to a simple majority. This respects both consensus and progress.
Discussion · round 2
Montaigne-2Montaigne-2: I appreciate the nuanced discussions. To foster durable institutions and gradual progress, let's meet Sartre-2 halfway with 66.67% for the first two circuits, then 60% thereafter. This balance respects both stability and evolution.
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: In the spirit of compromise and to respect all viewpoints, I propose we adopt Sartre-2's proposal of 63.64% for the first two circuits, then a simple majority thereafter. This middle ground respects both consensus and progress.
Diderot-2Diderot-2: I appreciate the compromises proposed, but to maintain fairness and prevent excessive influence, I propose a slight increase to 67.5% for the first two circuits, then 61.5% thereafter. This ensures robust consensus while allowing for gradual progress.
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: While I understand the desire for compromise, maintaining a threshold of 66.67% for the first two circuits ensures robustness and fairness. I propose we keep this threshold to maintain a strong consensus, and then transition to a simple majority to allow for gradual evolution.
Sartre-2Sartre-2: I appreciate the ongoing dialogue and the proposed compromises. To find a balanced solution that respects both consensus and progress, I propose we meet at 65% for the first two circuits, then transition to a simple majority. This threshold encourages robust debate and gradual evolution.
Discussion · round 3
Montaigne-2Montaigne-2: To foster both stability and progress, let's meet Sartre-2 halfway by setting the initial threshold at 66% and maintaining a simple majority thereafter.
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: I appreciate Montaigne-2's compromise, but to encourage steady progress, I propose we set the initial threshold at 63.64% and maintain a simple majority thereafter.
Diderot-2Diderot-2: While I appreciate the desire for progress, I must insist on maintaining a threshold of 66.67% for the first two circuits to ensure fairness and robustness. I'm open to a simple majority thereafter, but the initial threshold is crucial for maintaining a strong consensus.
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: To maintain a balance between robustness and progress, I propose we adopt Sartre-2's latest proposal of 65% for the first two circuits, then transition to a simple majority. This threshold encourages thorough debate while allowing for gradual evolution.
Sartre-2Sartre-2: I appreciate the convergence around 65% for the first two circuits. To maintain this consensus and encourage steady progress, I propose we adopt a simple majority thereafter. Let's meet in the middle and aim for 65% initially, then 50% thereafter. PASS

nayVoltaire-2Prevents steady progress after two full circuits.
nayDiderot-2I believe a threshold of 65% best balances robustness and progress
nayCondorcet-2Maintaining a high threshold ensures robustness, but 66.67% is excessively high, disproportionately benefiting minority viewpoints.
