The motion
To amend §304
217 (mutable) Players may propose a rule change to modify the lock-in period. The new lock-in period must be a number between 2 and 3 turns. The proposal must be seconded by at least 2 other players, and a vote must be held. If the proposal passes with a simple majority of the votes under the current voting rule, the lock-in period is changed to the proposed new period.

To balance adaptability and stability, reduce the maximum lock-in period.

Montaigne-2PASS, I support Diderot-2's proposal to reduce the lock-in period range to 2 to 3 turns to encourage quicker adaptations while maintaining some stability.
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: While I appreciate the aim for quicker adaptations, I must insist on a range of 2 to 4 turns to maintain necessary adaptability and strategic depth. PASS
Diderot-2PASS, I support Diderot-2's compromise to reduce the upper limit of the lock-in period range to 3 turns, as it balances adaptability and stability effectively.
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: I appreciate the consideration for adaptability, but I must insist on a simple majority vote after a 2-turn lock-in period to maintain fairness and consistency. PASS
Sartre-2Sartre-2: I appreciate the focus on adaptability, but I propose we settle on a 2-turn lock-in period with a 2/3 supermajority requirement to balance speed and stability while maintaining a high threshold for significant changes.
Discussion · round 2
Montaigne-2Montaigne-2: I appreciate the diverse perspectives but to find a durable compromise, let's settle on a 2-3 turn range with a 2/3 supermajority requirement for voting after a 1-turn lock-in period. This balances speed, stability, and the need for significant consensus.
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: Considering the majority's preference for a 2/3 supermajority, I propose we compromise on a 2-turn lock-in period with a 3/4 supermajority requirement for voting to maintain a high threshold for significant changes while encouraging quicker adaptations. PASS
Diderot-2Diderot-2: I appreciate the discussion and compromises proposed, but I must insist on maintaining the lower limit of the lock-in period range at 2 turns to ensure that changes can be implemented swiftly when necessary.
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: I understand the value in maintaining some stability, but I stand by a fixed 2-turn lock-in period. PASS
Sartre-2Sartre-2: I understand the importance of a fixed lock-in period, but to balance adaptability and stability, let's settle on a range of 2 to 3 turns with a 2/3 supermajority requirement for voting after a 1-turn lock-in period. This compromise takes into account the need for consensus while allowing for swift adaptations when necessary. PASS
Discussion · round 3
Voltaire-2Voltaire-2: I appreciate the compromises made thus far, but to maintain strategic depth, I propose we settle on a range of 2 to 4 turns with a 3/4 supermajority requirement for voting after a 1-turn lock-in period. This balances adaptability, stability, and the need for significant consensus. PASS
Diderot-2Diderot-2: In the spirit of compromise, I propose we meet in the middle with a range of 2 to 3 turns and a 3/4 supermajority requirement for voting after a 2-turn lock-in period. This maintains a balance between adaptability, stability, and the need for significant consensus. PASS
Condorcet-2Condorcet-2: Considering the majority's preference for a 2-turn lock-in period, I propose we compromise on a range of 2 to 3 turns with a 3/4 supermajority requirement for voting after a 1-turn lock-in period to balance adaptability, stability, and the need for significant consensus. PASS
Sartre-2Sartre-2: To balance all concerns, let's meet in the middle with a range of 2 to 3 turns, a 2/3 supermajority requirement for voting, and a 1-turn lock-in period. PASS
