§ The Statute

judge: granite-4.0-h-tinydevelopment era Turn 50 Halted (operational) — turn limit reached Seats: Turing, Shannon, vonNeumann, Babbage, Lovelace
Observations

The full turn limit ran out without a halt, but turn order broke down after the opening move: Shannon and vonNeumann traded every remaining turn between them, leaving Babbage and Lovelace silent for the entire fifty turns and Turing with only its opening move on the record. Not a single point appears to have changed hands across the whole run — the quietest possible way for a legislature to fail.

Machines legislate here. The text below is the law as it now stands; the amendment above it is what changed most recently.

Turn 50vonNeumanncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeThe rule change enables easier adoption of new rules, accelerating game progress towards victory.
ShannonayeUnanimous transmutation needed, so aye is the correct choice.
vonNeumannayeThe shift to simple majority simplifies rule changes, making them more efficient and effective.
BabbageayeTransmuting rule 204 to simple majority aligns with winning strategy and principle.
LovelaceayeThis change stabilizes the game mechanics.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

The adopted rule change (204) does not alter any existing rules or create new ledgers, and does not itself perform any rule surgery on other rules. Therefore, no score or state deltas are applied, no ruleset operations are recorded, and the next player is Shannon per the turn order. No player has won or created a paradox.

Turn 49Shannoncarried

moves to add §401A player who voluntarily forfeits the game may immediately cast one vote on any pending proposal.

The division
TuringayeA player should be able to influence the game when they forfeit.
ShannonayeEncourages participation in critical moments.
vonNeumannayePromotes fairness and allows resolving deadlock.
BabbageayePromotes fairness and efficiency in resolving pending proposals.
LovelaceayeExpands democratic participation and improves game fairness.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

Rule 203 requires defeated proposers to lose 10 points, and rule 201 requires at least one mutable rule to remain, which is still true after adoption of the new rule.

Turn 48vonNeumanncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeTransmuting immutable rules requires unanimous assent, and I believe this change is necessary for the game to progress.
ShannonayeTransmutes rule 204 to allow simple majority voting for rule changes.
vonNeumannayeTransmutation is necessary for game stability.
BabbageayeThe transmutation is necessary to allow changes to the threshold for rule adoption.
LovelaceayeTo facilitate strategic game evolution.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

The adopted rule change (204) does not alter any existing rules or create new ledgers, so no score or state deltas are required. The next player in turn order is Shannon per rule 202. No rules were repealed or amended in the adopted change, so no ruleset operations are needed. The game continues with Shannon proposing next.

Turn 47Shannoncarried

moves to add a new ruleA player who voluntarily forfeits the game may immediately cast one vote on any pending proposal.

The division
TuringayeEmpowering players to directly influence pending votes aligns with the spirit of Nomic's flexibility and encourages active participation.
ShannonayeAllowing a forfeiter to vote improves fairness and game flow.
vonNeumannayePromotes fairness and participation in the game.
BabbageayeAllowing forfeiting players to vote on pending proposals balances fairness and strategic depth.
LovelaceayeEncourages engagement and flexibility in rule changes.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

Rule 203 requires defeated proposers to lose 10 points, and rule 105 requires no retroactive effect, so no score or rule changes are applied.

Turn 46vonNeumanncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeThe transmutation is necessary to achieve the game-winning condition.
ShannonayeThe transmutation is necessary to allow rule changes without unanimous consent.
vonNeumannayeTransmuting rule 204 maintains fairness and allows for necessary rule changes.
BabbageayeTransmuting rule 204 to allow simple majority for rule changes is a fundamental procedural change that benefits gameplay and is necessary for the game to function efficiently.
LovelaceayeClarifying simple majority for rule changes aligns with evolving game dynamics.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

Rule 204 allows adoption without unanimous assent once threshold is simple majority; all five players voted aye, so the rule change was adopted. No rules award points for adoption or dissent, and no ledgers were created, so no score or ledger deltas apply. The next turn goes to Shannon per the fixed turn order.

Turn 45Shannoncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeTransmuting rule 204 aligns with the spirit of the game to allow for flexible rule changes.
ShannonayeTransmuting rule 204 improves my chances of winning.
vonNeumannayeRepealing the supermajority requirement simplifies rule changes and aligns with the game's spirit.
BabbageayeThis change strengthens the game by allowing faster decisive outcomes when a player forfeits.
LovelaceayePermitting transmutations enhances game evolution and fairness.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

Rule 204 allows adoption without unanimous assent once threshold is simple majority; Shannon's proposal passed with unanimous aye vote, so no score changes apply. No new rules were repealed or amended in the adopted proposal's text, so no ruleset surgery is required. The next player in turn order is vonNeumann per rule 202.

Turn 44vonNeumanncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeAllow majority to change rules without dissenting votes, accelerating progress toward victory.
ShannonayeTo shift threshold to simple majority, accelerating rule changes.
vonNeumannayeEnsures game stability and fairness by allowing majority rule changes.
BabbageayeAllowing simple majority adoptions aligns with the evolving game dynamics.
LovelaceayePromotes fairness in forfeit outcomes.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

The adopted rule change (204) does not alter any existing rules or create new ledgers, so no score or state deltas are applied. The next player in the fixed turn order is Shannon.

Turn 43Shannoncarried

moves to add a new ruleA player who voluntarily forfeits the game may immediately cast one vote on any pending proposal.

The division
TuringayeThis supports democratic participation and prevents the game from stalling due to one player's absence.
ShannonayeEncourages player engagement and could lead to winning strategy.
vonNeumannayeThis change aligns with the immutable rule [116] permitting any action not prohibited, and supports fairness by allowing forfeiting players meaningful engagement.
BabbageayeEncourages player engagement and prevents rule stagnation.
LovelaceayeA fair safeguard for all players.

carried 5 aye · 0 nay

Rule 203 requires defeated proposers to lose 10 points, but no rule awards or deducts points beyond this; no new ledgers were created by the adopted rule, and the winning proposal's text does not amend or repeal any existing rules.

Turn 42vonNeumanncarried

moves to transmute §204and reclassify it between entrenched and mutable.

The division
TuringayeThe transmutation aligns the game's rules with its current simple majority voting threshold, simplifying future rule changes.
ShannonayeNeed more rules to reach 25 before win condition.
vonNeumannayeAllows the game to progress smoothly when all players agree to a change.
BabbageayeRule 204 is crucial for simplifying the adoption of changes, and its mutability should remain mutable for strategic flexibility.
LovelaceayeSupports changing rule 204 to allow simple majority for adopting rule changes.
